As a try-out me and Petra went to ‘de Langste Vegetarische Tafel’ at the Museum Square on the 11th of July. This was a record attempt by the ‘Vegetariërsbond’, and Nature & More sponsored them by giving 180 kg of organic fruit and vegetables. By getting as many people as possible in the same place at once to eat vegetarian food the ‘Vegetariërsbond’ tried to draw attention to being a vegetarian.
One of the initiators, Floris de Graad, told us that this event was all about showing people how much fun vegetarian food can be. Most people find it hard to try something new when it comes to their food. They don’t know any recipes and they don’t know if it will be any good. But by giving them a delicious vegetarian meal for free the ‘Vegetariërsbond’ hoped to show people that vegetarian food can easily be as delicious as food with meat.
And they succeeded. About 800 people joined them in a delicious meal, and not only people who knew about it beforehand. Many tourists found themselves joining an unexpected meal on one of the touristic highlights of Amsterdam, and enjoying it very much.
