The ‘Body Shop Boycott’

I want to start of this blog by saying that I like the Body Shop. They have great organic products, and even though they’re a bit expensive, I really like it.
There are some people, however, saying that we should stop buying products at the Body Shop because L’Oreal bought the Body Shop when it was about to go bankrupt. L’Oreal is known to test its products on animals. So basically, what people are saying is that when you buy your organic products at the Body Shop, the money that’s made might be spent on testing animals, which is a bit contradictory if you want to save the world.
It brings up a meaningful question though. What’s more important: the fact that L’Oreal saved the Body Shop from bankruptcy so there’s still a possibility to buy organic products, or the fact that the money meant to save the world might be killing animals?
I try to look at this from an economical point of view, and the fact that the Body Shop exists and there is a possibility to buy organic beauty products is more important to me. The market share for organic products is growing slowly, and apparently the concept of selling organic beauty products couldn’t get enough market share on it’s own and had to be helped by L’Oreal. It exists now, and it’s growing, and to me that’s better than when it wouldn’t exists, even if the profit might be spent on testing products on animals.
The Body Shops shows me that people are starting to see the importance of organic products. Not only costumers saw it, even a company like L’Oreal saw it, even if it was only for economical reasons. The market share for organic products is growing, in any sector, not just for the beauty products.
