Cultural differences

The one thing that has caught my attention the most in the past few weeks is a cultural difference when it comes to food. I have a soft allergy for milk, so whenever I buy a sandwich or a pizza I ask if there's any milk in it. In the Netherlands it's incredibly hard to find bread without milk, but here in Italy and in France they look at you as if you are crazy to even assume there would be a trace of milk in the bread. I guess this is a pretty small difference in local food, but there are much bigger differences.

In Spain, for example, they eat the biggest meal of the day at lunch and a small meal at night. In Russia they tend to eat a lot of fat to keep themselves warm in winter, which also makes it more logical to eat meat. Here in Italy, people love eating salads for lunch because you simply don't need that much food in a warmer climate.

Those differences will make it hard for you if you have allergies, or if you are a vegetarian, because you suddenly have to get used to new habits you've never heard of or seen before. However, the one thing all those habits have in common is that it's possible to eat organic, whatever it is that you're eating. And it's happening, people eat more and more organic food.
